Russian President Vladimir Putin described the killing of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei and his family as a "deliberate crime" and a blatant violation of ethics and international law, in a condolence message sent to Iranian President Masoud Bezhakian.
In the message, he stated: "Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the death of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Ali Khamenei, and his family members, in a blatant violation of all standards of human ethics and international law."
Iranian media confirmed the death of Khamenei and members of his family in the Israeli-American attack, and authorities announced a 40-day mourning period and a week of official holiday.
In contrast, U.S. President Donald Trump declared that Khamenei's killing represents "a victory for the Iranian people and for victims around the world," asserting that the attack aims to destroy Iranian military capabilities and overthrow the regime.
These developments come amid unprecedented military escalation in the region, as Iran retaliated by launching missiles at Israel and American bases in Gulf countries, complicating the regional situation further.
