South Korean Foreign Minister Choo Hyun announced that his country is considering transferring some U.S. "Patriot" air defense systems to help counter Iranian attacks amid escalating military tensions in the Middle East.
The minister explained during a parliamentary hearing that the U.S. and South Korean militaries are consulting on the possibility of relocating the Patriot systems stationed in South Korea to operational areas related to the war against Iran.

Escalation of War Between Iran and the United States and Israel

This development comes at a time when the region is experiencing unprecedented military escalation, as the United States and Israel have been conducting extensive airstrikes against targets inside Iran since the end of February.
Tehran responded to these attacks by launching missiles and drones targeting Israeli sites and U.S. military bases in several countries in the Middle East, leading to an expansion of the confrontation and an increase in regional tensions.

Plan to Evacuate Thousands of Koreans from the UAE

Alongside the military developments, the South Korean government announced that it is working to repatriate about 3,000 stranded Korean citizens in the United Arab Emirates, following disruptions in air travel due to the military escalation in the region.
The Foreign Minister indicated that commercial flights between the UAE and South Korea may resume soon, which will help expedite the evacuation of citizens and their return to the country.

International Concern Over the Expansion of War

The involvement of more countries in supporting military or defensive operations raises international concerns about the expansion of the conflict in the Middle East, especially with the ongoing exchange of strikes between Iran on one side and the United States and Israel on the other.
