Ramadan Crescent 2026: Learn about the date of the first day of the holy month according to astronomical horizons

The "Horizons for Astronomy" association in Saudi Arabia has predicted that Wednesday, February 18, 2026 will be the first day of the holy month of Ramadan, based on precise astronomical data regarding the crescent of Ramadan expected to be visible to the naked eye.
The association confirmed that what distinguishes this conjunction this year is its visibility to the naked eye, especially as it coincides with the annular solar eclipse that will be visible in parts of the southern hemisphere, making it a rare and special astronomical event.
The association also noted that the duration of the crescent's visibility above the horizon after sunset varies according to geographical location; for example, in the city of Agadir in Morocco, the crescent lasts about 11 minutes before disappearing from view.
Based on this data, it is expected that Wednesday, February 18, will be the mathematical beginning of Ramadan.
It is worth mentioning that the official announcement of the crescent sighting and the beginning of Ramadan is issued by the Supreme Court in Saudi Arabia, where the sighting of the crescent is a fundamental condition for the start of the lunar month in many Arab and Islamic countries.
On the other hand, both Oman and Turkey and Singapore announced that Thursday, February 19, will be the first day of Ramadan, while Saudi weather and climate researcher Abdulaziz Al-Hussaini, as well as weather expert Khalid Al-Zaaq, suggested that the beginning of Ramadan will be on Wednesday, February 18.
