French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot confirmed today, Thursday, that combating the "ISIS" organization is an absolute priority for his country during his visit to the Syrian capital, Damascus, at the start of a regional tour that includes Iraq and Lebanon, aimed at discussing security issues and regional developments.

Barrot's statements came after his meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad at the Tishreen Palace, where the two sides discussed several issues of mutual interest, in addition to reviewing the latest developments in the region and ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between Damascus and Paris.

France Confirms Ongoing Military Efforts Against Extremist Organizations

Barrot stated that France has been engaged in a continuous war against ISIS in Iraq and Syria for nearly a decade, emphasizing that his country is determined to continue these efforts, and confirming that his visit aims to renew France's commitment to confronting extremist organizations in the region.

Joint Confirmation of the Unity of Syrian Territories

For its part, the Syrian official news agency "SANA" reported that the meeting addressed ways to develop relations between the two countries, in addition to affirming Syria's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, amid political and security transformations in the region.

The visit of the French Foreign Minister is part of a regional tour that includes Iraq and Lebanon, where discussions are expected to focus on security coordination and confronting extremist organizations, in addition to discussing political issues related to the stability of the region.
