Elham Shahin Responds to Criticism of Her Nephew's Wedding: Youth Freedom Comes First

The Egyptian artist Elham Shahin broke her silence to respond to the wave of criticism surrounding her nephew's wedding, which took place in September 2024, especially after the controversy regarding the presence of alcoholic beverages during the celebration.
In an interview with the program "Between the Lines with Yumna," Shahin said:
"Some people do this and don't say anything, and some people are at a party drinking, and when they come to take pictures, the drink is hidden; if someone is honest and clear, what's the problem?"
She added: "We are not in a position to judge people religiously as long as the person does not harm others. What matters in the end is human behavior, not interfering in others' personal choices."
Shahin confirmed that the wedding was not conducted in the traditional Islamic way, but was a celebration reflecting the freedom of youth and their desire to enjoy their time and exercise their personal freedom, considering that "the youth are happy and have the right to their choices as long as they do not harm anyone."
In a related context, Shahin launched a fierce attack on social media platforms, describing them as having turned into "a terrifying arena for invading privacy."
She criticized the lack of mutual respect, stating that social media has transformed from tools for positive communication into tools for violating sanctities and tracking mistakes.
She added that she was shocked by the way spontaneous moments are monitored and filmed for the purpose of defamation or mockery, considering that this behavior represents "a moral decline that threatens social fabric and the privacy guaranteed by all norms."
Shahin's statements reignited the discussion about youth freedom and personal privacy in the age of social media, reaffirming her support for individual choices and human behavior away from external interventions.
