Damascus Condemns Israeli Airstrikes and Describes Them as a "Flagrant Violation of Sovereignty"

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned today, Tuesday, the Israeli airstrikes that targeted military sites in the provinces of Homs and Latakia, describing them as a "flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic and a direct threat to its security and regional stability."
The ministry called in its statement on the United Nations Security Council to assume its legal and moral responsibilities, and to take a firm stance that puts an end to these repeated aggressions, and ensures respect for Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The official Syrian news agency (SANA) reported that Israeli aircraft launched strikes late Monday on the outskirts of the cities of Latakia, Homs, and Palmyra, while the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights indicated that one of the strikes targeted an air force battalion southeast of Homs, resulting in strong explosions and material damage.
It is noteworthy that Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes on Syrian territory in recent years, targeting sites of the Syrian army and factions allied with Iran, while Syria and Israel have officially been in a state of war since 1948. Recently, transitional authorities in Damascus have spoken about indirect negotiations with Tel Aviv regarding a return to the disengagement agreement signed in 1974.
