Astronomy enthusiasts in Arab countries are preparing this evening, Sunday, September 7, 2025 to observe a rare total lunar eclipse, known as the "Blood Moon", where the moon turns a beautiful red color that fills the sky.
This phenomenon can be clearly seen in Asia and Australia, and partially in Europe and Africa.
* Eclipse Times in UAE and Saudi Arabia:
07:28 PM (06:28 PM Saudi time): Beginning of the moon's entry into the penumbral shadow.
08:27 PM (07:27 PM Saudi time): Beginning of the partial eclipse.
09:31 PM (08:31 PM Saudi time): Beginning of the total eclipse.
10:12 PM (09:12 PM Saudi time): Peak of the total eclipse.
10:53 PM (09:53 PM Saudi time): End of the total eclipse.
11:57 PM (10:57 PM Saudi time): End of the partial eclipse.
12:55 AM (11:55 PM Saudi time, Monday): End of the eclipse completely.
* How will Arab countries observe the eclipse?
_ In the East of Arab countries: The moon will rise before the eclipse begins, so you will see the moon clearly and the beginning of the eclipse appearing gradually on it.
_ In the Center of Arab countries: The moon will rise at the beginning stages of the eclipse.
_ In the West of Arab countries: The moon will rise in the final stages of the eclipse, meaning that the eclipse will be nearing its end when the moon appears.
* What causes the red color of the "Blood Moon"?
A lunar eclipse occurs when the sun, earth, and moon are aligned, completely blocking the sun from the moon, and sunlight is refracted through the earth's atmosphere onto the moon's surface. This refraction makes the moon appear in a distinctive red color, with the intensity of the color varying depending on air purity; the more pollution, the darker the color.
* Important Notes:
• You do not need special glasses to watch the lunar eclipse, just a clear sky and a suitable viewing location.
• This is the second total eclipse of 2025, following the eclipse last March.
• This eclipse is considered a precursor to a major solar eclipse that will occur on August 12, 2026, which will be fully visible in Spain and Iceland, and partially in several European countries.
* Live Broadcast:
The eclipse can be followed live through the live broadcast provided by the International Astronomy Center from the UAE.
