Worrying outbreak in East Africa.. WHO warns of the spread of Marburg virus in Ethiopia

The Marburg virus is one of the deadliest known viruses, causing severe illness that often ends in death. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, and intense muscle pain, before many patients develop severe bleeding within a week of infection.
The WHO confirms that there are currently no approved medications for effective treatment or vaccines to protect against the virus, making control of its outbreak more difficult.
The organization described the infections in Ethiopia as "the first of their kind in the country," noting that similar cases have been recorded in East African countries recently. Genetic analyses indicate that the circulating strain is the same one that caused infections in the town of Jinka in southern Ethiopia.
As part of the emergency response, the organization has sent a team of experts to the area to help contain the outbreak and limit its spread, according to a statement issued on Friday evening.
