In a notable step on the political and diplomatic scene, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi decided yesterday, Monday, October 13, 2025, to award U.S. President Donald Trump the "Nile Necklace", the highest honor in the Egyptian Republic, in recognition of his role in supporting peace efforts and defusing conflicts in the region, particularly his decisive intervention in stopping the war in Gaza.

* What is the Nile Necklace?

According to the official website of the Presidency, the Nile Necklace is the highest Egyptian honor ever, awarded personally by the President of the Republic, with an official signature certificate, and its holder is given official military honors upon their death.

* History of the medal

The necklace dates back to 1915 during the reign of Sultan Hussein Kamel, and it tops the list of national honors in Egypt, followed by the Necklace of the Republic in second place, and the Scarf of the Nile in third place.

* Who is awarded the necklace?

According to Article 4 of Law No. 12 of the year 1972, the Nile Necklace may be awarded to:

• Heads of states

• Crown princes

• Vice presidents

• And also to those who provide great services to Egypt or humanity in general.

* Description and design of the necklace

The Nile Necklace is made of gold or gilded silver, consisting of a chain that holds three square-shaped units, decorated with enamel and Pharaonic designs, connected by two parallel chains, each centered with a small lotus flower.

The first chain symbolizes the protection of the country from evils,

the second symbolizes the prosperity and happiness brought by the Nile River,

and the third symbolizes goodness and permanence.

Each square unit is connected to the other via a circular flower adorned with red gems, centered with a blue gem, while the units are suspended by intricately designed chains.

At the end of the necklace, there is a mesh ornament shaped like two lotus flowers, featuring Pharaonic designs, and adorned with red and blue gems, with a symbol in the center that combines papyrus (North Egypt) and the lotus flower (South Egypt), indicating the unity of the Nile Valley.

* Notable recipients of the necklace

• Military leaders:

* A notable political context

This honor comes at a time when Egypt is preparing to host an international conference for reconstruction and development in Gaza, following the announcement of a ceasefire mediated by direct American interventions, the most notable of which was Trump's role in pressuring the parties to stop the escalation, according to Arab and international reports.

* A medal with historical and humanitarian symbolism

The Nile Necklace is not just a stunning piece of art, but represents the highest degree of honor and official recognition from the Egyptian state for those who have rendered great service to Egypt or humanity as a whole, granting a prestigious honorary status to its holder in life and even after death.
