Sharm El Sheikh Summit 2025: Peace in Gaza on the Table of Sisi and Trump

In a historic step aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in Gaza and enhancing peace efforts in the Middle East, the "Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit" will be held next Monday in the Egyptian city of Sharm El Sheikh, co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his American counterpart Donald Trump. The summit will witness the participation of more than 20 international leaders.

The Egyptian presidency confirmed that the summit primarily aims to end the war in the Gaza Strip, work on enhancing regional stability, and open a new chapter of security and peace in the region.

It also mentioned that this summit comes within the framework of President Donald Trump's vision seeking to achieve peace in the Middle East and end conflicts around the world.

The Sharm El Sheikh Summit is preparing to welcome a number of prominent international leaders, with the participation of French President Emmanuel Macron, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who will travel to Egypt to attend the signing ceremony of the agreement.

In this context, the British Prime Minister's office confirmed that Starmer will attend the summit, which will mark a historic turning point in peace efforts, highlighting the importance of signing the peace plan regarding Gaza, which will represent a strategic shift after two years of conflict.

Israel and Hamas had signed an agreement mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, which includes several important provisions, including a ceasefire, and the exchange of prisoners between the two parties, as well as the exchange of Israeli hostages with Palestinian detainees.

The summit will address the mechanisms for implementing the first phase of this agreement, reflecting the diligent efforts made to achieve long-term stability in Gaza.

Regarding Hamas, the movement announced that it will not participate in the signing ceremony, asserting that its removal from Gaza is "absurd," reflecting the challenges that this peace process may face, despite the international support provided.

Donald Trump stated prior to the summit that the meeting in Sharm El Sheikh will bring together a number of leaders to discuss the future of the Gaza Strip, expressing his optimism about discussing political solutions that lead to lasting stability in the region after years of violence.

A phone call took place between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atti and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to discuss the latest arrangements for holding the international meeting, including the mechanisms for implementing the agreement aimed at ending the war in Gaza.

The Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit represents an important opportunity to achieve diplomatic understandings, marking the beginning of a new phase of international cooperation to resolve the lingering issues in the Middle East after years of wars and conflicts.
