The White House spokesperson, Caroline Levitt, announced that U.S. President Donald Trump was informed this morning about the Israeli airstrike that targeted the Qatari capital, Doha, confirming that the president made a call to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, assuring him that such an incident "would not happen again".
Levitt stated in a press conference that Trump spoke directly with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following the airstrikes that targeted a headquarters of leaders from the "Hamas" movement in Doha. She added that the U.S. president directed his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, to inform the Qatari side about the imminent attack before it was carried out.
The spokesperson clarified that Trump expressed his rejection of the location of the strike, considering that "bombing inside Qatar does not enhance the goals of the United States or Israel," while also noting that Washington views Qatar as a "strong ally and friend".
Levitt confirmed that the U.S. president sees this "unfortunate incident" as a new opportunity to push for peace in the region, emphasizing that eliminating "Hamas," which "has benefited from the suffering of the people of Gaza," remains a legitimate goal according to her statement.
Earlier today, the Qatari Ministry of Interior announced the death and injury of several members of the internal security forces due to the Israeli airstrikes, confirming that the Qatari authorities are closely monitoring developments and taking necessary measures to protect citizens and residents.
