The Ministry of Electricity Reveals Reasons for Complete Power Outage in Iraq

The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced yesterday, Wednesday, a complete power outage across all provinces of Iraq, in a rare incident that shook the national energy system.
The ministry confirmed in an official statement that the electrical system completely shut down, and its teams are working to identify the direct causes and restore the stations as quickly as possible, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
* Cause of the Outage: Sudden Drop in Gas Supplies
The ministry's spokesperson indicated that the outage was due to a sudden drop in gas supplies allocated for the Rumaila gas power generation station in Basra province, confirming that efforts to restore electricity are underway across the country.
* Explosions at Major Airports
This outage coincided with explosions near Baghdad International Airport and Erbil International Airport in the Kurdistan region.
* Tense Regional Context
This outage comes at a time of escalating regional tensions, following the sixth day of the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, where airstrikes attributed to the U.S. and Israel targeted Iraqi factions supported by Iran, which in turn announced its support for Iran and claimed responsibility for dozens of drone attacks on American bases.
Despite Iraq's relative stability after years of being a battleground between the U.S. and Iran, the country has not been spared from the repercussions of the regional war, amid fears of an expansion of the conflict.
