The activities of the "Kurdish Unity in Syria" forum kicked off this morning, Saturday, April 26, in the city of Qamishli in the northeast of the country, with the presence of more than 300 political and religious figures, including representatives from Syrian Kurdish parties, as well as parties from Iraqi and Turkish Kurdistan.
Prominent Attendance and Messages of Support
The "Qamishlo" hall at Azadi Park welcomed the participating delegations early in the morning, including representatives from the "Kurdistan Democratic Party" and the "Democratic Union Party," amidst official and popular welcoming atmospheres.
The preparatory committee announced that the conference includes important political speeches, including an expected speech by a representative from the US State Department, indicating international interest in the event.
Barzani: Kurdish Unity is the Path to a Just Solution
In a recorded message, Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani, represented by Hamid Darbandi, emphasized the need to strengthen relations between Kurds and other components of the Syrian people, considering a unified Kurdish delegation as a decisive step to ensure their rights in future Syria.
Barzani added: "Kurdish unity is a fundamental gateway to a just solution to the Kurdish issue," pointing out that Kurds in Syria have suffered for decades from "denial and injustice."
Barzani also praised the role of the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, saying: "The success of this conference is the result of the strenuous efforts made by Abdi and other Kurdish leaders."
Abdi: Constitutional Rights and Syrian Unity are Priorities
For his part, Mazloum Abdi affirmed in his speech that the main demand of Kurds in new Syria is constitutional recognition of their rights, emphasizing that their struggle has always been for the unity of Syrian territories.
Abdi stated: "Protecting the gains of northeastern Syria and ensuring the rights of all components is a national duty that is non-negotiable," calling for a decentralized constitution that ensures fair representation for all. He continued: "Kurdish unity does not mean dividing Syria, but rather supports its unity and stability."
US Support for Kurdish Dialogue
The US State Department welcomed the convening of the conference, with a US official telling local media: "The United States welcomes the resumption of Kurdish-Kurdish dialogue," expressing his country's hope for progress towards Kurdish unity.
