The Israeli army issued an urgent warning this Wednesday morning, calling on residents of the Gaza port area and the southern Rimal neighborhood to evacuate immediately, as part of a continuing military escalation targeting the city of Gaza.
The spokesperson for the Israeli army Avichai Adraee published a statement on his page on the "X" platform, in which he said:
"An urgent warning to anyone who has not yet evacuated the Gaza port area and the southern Rimal neighborhood, especially in blocks 663, 785, 786, 787, and specifically in the Taiba 2 tower marked in red, and in the nearby tents."
Adraee confirmed that the army intends to bomb the building soon, claiming that there are "terrorist infrastructures of Hamas" inside or near it, stressing the need for residents to leave immediately towards the south to the "humanitarian area in the Mawasi of Khan Younis."
This warning comes as part of a series of Israeli moves aimed at tightening control over the city of Gaza, where the army recently announced that it controls about 40% of the city's area as part of what it called "Operation Gideon 2," which aims for complete control and occupation of the city.
* Field Situation:
Field reports indicate that the Israeli army is using various methods of control, combining intense airstrikes and ground incursions, as its forces operate in multiple axes:
• Fire control over large areas of the neighborhoods of Zaitoun, Shuja'iyya, and Tuffah, preventing residents from entering and targeting anyone who approaches.
• Ground incursion in areas such as the Sabra neighborhood, which is experiencing intermittent calm that alternates with the pace of operations.
• Direct ground deployment in the Sheikh Radwan area from its eastern side, with fire control imposed on its western, northern, and southern sides.
The Israeli forces continue to carve strategic paths towards the south, especially via the main tunnel street that connects the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood with the Daraj neighborhood.
This street has been subjected to a series of airstrikes that led to the destruction of several homes and residential buildings, after residents were warned to evacuate, causing a large wave of displacement from these areas.
* Humanitarian Conditions:
At the same time, Israeli aircraft dropped warning leaflets on residents of western Gaza City, ordering them to evacuate immediately and head towards the Mawasi of Khan Younis, which Israel has classified as a "humanitarian area," but clarified at the same time that it is "not safe," in reference to its continued targeting of tents for displaced persons there.
This contradiction has exacerbated the state of terror among civilians, especially with the bombing of residential towers coinciding with the distribution of leaflets, prompting thousands of families to flee via the coastal Rashid Street towards the center and south of the sector.
Estimates indicate that about 100,000 Palestinians have left the city of Gaza so far, out of nearly 1.2 million people who lived in the city a few weeks ago.
* Rising International Context:
In light of the ongoing military operations, international criticism is increasing, including from Hollywood stars who have announced their boycott of Israeli institutions, considering them "complicit in the war on Gaza," reflecting a growing global rejection of Israeli policies towards civilians in the sector.
Gaza continues to live under the fires of escalation, with warnings and airstrikes continuing, amidst mass displacement and heavy human and material losses, while civilians' options for seeking safe refuge within a besieged sector for years are dwindling.
