The Director General of Gaza Hospitals, Dr. Mohamed Zaqout, confirmed today, Friday, that the health sector is facing an unprecedented crisis, as hospitals receive thousands of injured daily due to ongoing Israeli airstrikes, amid weak medical capabilities.
Challenges in Repairing Hospitals
Zaqout explained that repairing the damaged hospitals in Gaza requires a long time and significant efforts, while medical teams continue to work under difficult conditions to save patients' lives.
Shortage of Essential Medicines in Gaza
The Director General of Gaza Hospitals pointed out that there is a severe shortage of essential medicines, including medications for cancer patients, diabetes, and pregnant women, in addition to medical supplies and materials for radiology departments.
Urgent Demands for Medical Aid
Zaqout stated that the Ministry of Health in Gaza urgently requested the entry of medicines and medical supplies, with expectations that some shortages may be resolved by tomorrow, which could partially alleviate the crisis.
Loss of Medical Staff in Gaza
Zaqout revealed that the health sector has lost more than 1,700 consulting doctors and nurses since the beginning of the war, which has exacerbated the health crisis and increased pressure on the remaining medical staff.
