The official page of Imam Dr. Ahmed Omar Hashem, a member of the Senior Scholars of Al-Azhar, announced this morning, Tuesday, the death of Dr. Ahmed Omar Hashem at the age of seventy, after a long career in serving Islam and moderate advocacy.
The obituary statement published on his official page on "Facebook" mentioned that his death occurred at dawn today.
According to the statement, the funeral prayer will be held after the noon prayer today at Al-Azhar Mosque, where the body will be escorted to its final resting place in the family cemetery in the Hashimiyah area of Bani Amer village, affiliated with the Zagazig Center in Sharqia Governorate, after the afternoon prayer.

Dr. Ahmed Omar Hashem is considered one of the most prominent scholars at Al-Azhar in recent decades, combining knowledge, administration, and advocacy.
He held many high positions at Al-Azhar, most notably the presidency of Al-Azhar University, and was a prominent member of the Islamic Research Academy and the Senior Scholars Authority.
He was known for his moderate religious discourse, which received wide appreciation in both Egyptian and Arab societies.
He also played a significant role in participating in scientific and religious bodies inside and outside Egypt, and he made tangible contributions to enriching Islamic thought and advocating for moderation and balance.
