The Egyptian pound continued its decline against the US dollar during trading on Sunday, reaching an exchange rate in the official market of about 47.71 pounds for buying and 47.81 pounds for selling per dollar, according to data from the National Bank of Egypt.
This level reflects the pound losing all the gains it had made against the dollar since the beginning of 2026, after experiencing a decline of about 76 piasters in its averages at Egyptian banks last week.
The decline of the local currency, according to bankers, is attributed to a partial exit of foreign investors from local treasury bills, which increased pressure on the pound as demand for dollars in the market rose.
