Taiwan plans to increase its purchases of American natural gas in order to reduce its trade surplus with the United States, a measure to avoid tariffs that may be imposed by President Donald Trump's administration on Taiwanese imports.

According to an official at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, CPC Corp. and the government are taking steps to buy more natural gas following Trump's announcement of his plan to expand oil and gas production for exporting American energy worldwide and reducing the country's international trade deficit.
