The Syrian capital, Damascus, witnessed the signing of a series of strategic agreements and contracts between Syria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in a move described as a qualitative shift in the course of economic and developmental relations between the two countries. The agreements covered vital sectors, most notably aviation, water, communications, and industry, along with extensive developmental and social projects.

A Leap in the Aviation and Air Transport Sector

The agreements included the launch of a project to develop the new Aleppo International Airport, along with plans to upgrade and operate the current airport to enhance air transport and improve logistics services. The understandings also included the establishment of a new Syrian airline specialized in commercial aviation and air freight, in partnership with the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority, which enhances the country's ability to regain its presence in the air transport sector.

Strategic Projects to Address Water Challenges

In the water sector, an agreement was signed to develop desalination and water transport projects, which include preparing comprehensive economic, technical, and financial studies. These projects aim to assess the possibilities of seawater desalination and provide sustainable solutions to address the water challenges facing the country.

Enhancing Digital Infrastructure and Transforming Syria into a Regional Data Center

The agreements included a strategic project to develop telecommunications infrastructure by expanding the fiber optic network and establishing modern data centers. The project aims to improve the quality of internet services and enhance Syria's position as a regional center for data transmission and international communication.

Supporting the Industrial Sector and Qualifying Human Resources

In the industrial framework, an agreement was reached to operate and develop the Modern Syrian Cables Company, which contributes to supporting local industries and enhancing production. The agreements also included the development of a national platform specialized in vocational and technical training and qualification, aimed at raising the efficiency of human resources and meeting labor market requirements.

45 Development Initiatives to Enhance Joint Cooperation

At the developmental and social level, the two sides signed a framework agreement for cooperation between the "Syrian Development Fund" and the "Saudi Development Committee," which includes the launch of 45 joint developmental initiatives aimed at supporting development projects and improving the service and living conditions in several sectors.
