Snap Inc. announced significant changes to the "Memories" feature in the Snapchat app, marking the end of unlimited free storage. This decision comes after the total memories saved on the platform surpassed one trillion since 2016.
Under the new system, users will receive only 5 gigabytes of free storage, with the option to upgrade to paid plans starting from 100 gigabytes for $1.99 per month, up to 5 terabytes for platinum subscribers at $15.99 per month.
This decision coincides with Snapchat's launch of the paid Lens+ option priced at $9 per month. To ease the transition, the company is granting users who exceed the free limit a full year as temporary storage space, allowing them to choose the appropriate plan without losing their data.
Snap confirmed that most users will not feel the impact of this change, as the free limit is still sufficient for most accounts.
