In a controversial move, Elon Musk, the American billionaire and former White House advisor, urged around 227 million followers on the "X" platform (formerly Twitter) to cancel their subscriptions to the streaming service "Netflix", demanding it "for the health of your children".
This move came in response to a cartoon titled "Dead End: Paranormal Park", which features a gay teenage character and a transgender character, alongside an autistic girl.
Musk stated in his post: "Cancel Netflix for the health of your children", clarifying that he himself had canceled his subscription to the platform.
* The Controversial Show
The mentioned show, which was launched in 2022, faced widespread criticism and its broadcasts were canceled after two seasons.
Despite this, the series remains available to viewers aged seven and older.
Its portrayal of gay and transgender characters has sparked significant controversy among supporters and opponents, with some viewing the program as promoting a specific agenda targeting children, while others considered it to enhance values of inclusivity and acceptance.
* Reactions and Musk's Statements
In a series of tweets on "X", Musk described the cartoon show as "unacceptable". He shared clips from the program through several accounts, such as "Libs of TikTok", which also called for a boycott of Netflix due to what it deemed "an offensive direction" for children.
Criticism was also directed at director Hamish Steele, as old posts of his were circulated that included attacks on the late conservative leader Charlie Kirk, calling him a "Nazi", which increased the outrage against him.
Journalists were unable to verify the authenticity of those posts.
* Growing Calls for Boycott
As the controversy around this topic increases, Musk responded with a new tweet saying: "Cancel Netflix", reiterating support for British writer Graham Linehan, who also endorsed the boycott of the platform.
It seems that calls to boycott "Netflix" are expanding, as several public figures have joined in.
Elon Musk, who is no stranger to controversial statements, continues his attack on "Netflix" at a time when he is considered one of the richest men in the world with a fortune exceeding 500 billion dollars, reflecting his significant influence on social media platforms.
