Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi chaired a meeting of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces today, Sunday, coinciding with the fifty-second anniversary of the victories of the October War of 1973, where the meeting discussed regional and international developments and their implications for Egyptian national security.
The spokesperson for the presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, stated that the meeting comes as part of the state's and the armed forces' celebrations of the glorious victory anniversary, explaining that President Sisi praised the efforts of the armed forces in supporting the pillars of security and stability in various strategic directions.
El-Shenawy pointed out that General Abdel Majid Saker, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense and Military Production, reviewed a number of topics related to the army's tasks and its role in protecting the borders and cooperating with ministries and national institutions to implement sustainable development plans.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Sisi paid tribute to the souls of the martyrs of the homeland, affirming that the spirit of the October victory will remain deeply rooted in the hearts of the Egyptian people from generation to generation, emphasizing that what Egypt enjoys today in terms of security and prosperity “would not have been achieved without the sacrifices of the heroes of the crossing who set the most wonderful examples of sacrifice and giving for the dignity and honor of the homeland.”
Egypt celebrates on the sixth of October every year the anniversary of the victories of the October War of 1973, during which the armed forces were able to regain sovereignty over Sinai after years of Israeli occupation.
