The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today, Monday, that Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani received a call from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during which ways to establish a ceasefire were discussed.
Support for Mediation and Peaceful Solutions
During the call, Al Thani emphasized the necessity for all parties to respond to mediation efforts aimed at resolving the crisis through peaceful means, stressing the importance of prioritizing dialogue over escalation.
Emphasis on Freedom of Navigation
The Qatari Prime Minister stressed the need to open maritime corridors and not to use them as leverage, amid the tensions in the region.
Warning of the Consequences of Closure
He also pointed out that closing maritime corridors could lead to serious impacts on global energy and food supplies, necessitating swift action to avoid exacerbating the crisis.
