Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam confirmed that the Israeli army currently controls 68 sites in southern Lebanon, in a new escalation reflecting the ongoing tensions in the region despite a ceasefire agreement.
Salam: Israel Expanded from 5 Sites to 68 Villages South of the Litani River
Nawaf Salam clarified that the number of sites previously under Israeli control before the recent war did not exceed five sites, while the number has now risen to 68 villages, which is about half of the territory located south of the Litani River, approximately 30 kilometers north of the Israeli border.
Israel Justifies Its Military Presence in Southern Lebanon for Northern Security
For its part, the Israeli army justified its operations in southern Lebanon as part of efforts to protect the security of northern Israel, indicating that the goal is to eliminate what it described as a “serious threat” to northern residents and to prevent the repositioning of the Lebanese Hezbollah militia in the area.
The Lebanese Government Moves to Document War Crimes and Submit Them to the United Nations
The Lebanese Prime Minister confirmed that the government is working to document what it describes as Israeli war crimes in southern Lebanon, with plans to submit them to the United Nations, in addition to seeking to hold a session at the Human Rights Council in Geneva to discuss developments.
The Lebanese government also emphasized that Israeli military operations constitute a violation of international law and Lebanon's sovereignty.
Continued Bombing Despite Ceasefire Agreement and Thousands of Casualties
Despite reaching a ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel, military actions continue, with ongoing bombing and daily casualties.
According to reports, the conflict since last March has resulted in the deaths of 2,869 people in Lebanon so far.
