Pakistan and Afghanistan Reach Temporary Ceasefire After Deadly Clashes

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday that an agreement has been reached for a 48-hour ceasefire with Afghanistan, starting at 13:00 GMT, following two weeks of violent border clashes that resulted in dozens of soldiers and civilians being killed on both sides of the border.

The recent clashes erupted against a backdrop of mutual accusations, with Islamabad accusing Kabul of harboring elements of the Pakistani Taliban, while Afghan authorities deny these claims. The fighting included artillery shelling and airstrikes, leading to an unprecedented escalation of tensions.

According to official sources, the aim of the temporary truce is to allow for dialogue and to attempt to contain the escalation, with the possibility of extending it if the parties adhere to the ceasefire.
