Minister of Finance: A new law project abolishes the consumption tax and establishes a value-added tax

The Syrian Minister of Finance, Mohammad Yasser Barnieh, announced on Tuesday that the tax reform committee in the ministry has completed the sales tax law project, in a step aimed at updating the tax system in the country.
Barnieh explained that the new law will lead to the abolition of the consumption tax that has been in place for 35 years, paving the way for the transition to a value-added tax system, in line with modern economic standards and enhancing tax justice.
This transformation is expected to contribute to simplifying tax procedures and increasing transparency, in addition to improving public revenues without imposing additional unstudied burdens on citizens.
