Oil Prices Rise and Achieve Weekly Gains Despite Friday's Decline

Oil prices recorded an increase at the end of the week, achieving notable weekly gains despite a decline on Friday's session.

Oil prices remain supported by ongoing security tensions in the Middle East, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, which remains closed by Iran, hindering Iranian crude oil exports.

In this session, Brent crude surpassed $108 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate recorded an 8% weekly increase.

Brent Crude Achieves Weekly Gains of 2.7% Amid Ongoing Geopolitical Pressures

Despite the decline in oil prices on Friday, Brent crude for July delivery fell by $2.23 or 2.02% to close at $108.17 per barrel, but it achieved weekly gains of 2.7%.

In contrast, West Texas Intermediate fell by $3.13 or 2.98% to close at $101.94 per barrel, yet it recorded a weekly increase of 8%.

Security Tensions Affect Oil Supplies Through the Strait of Hormuz

Ongoing tensions in the region significantly impact oil prices, as the crisis of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is one of the main factors driving up crude prices.

Since the end of February, military escalations between the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other have disrupted the shipping of about 20% of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas supplies.

Iran Sends Proposals for Negotiation with the United States Amid Stalled Talks

In a move that could change the course of the conflict, Iran recently sent new proposals for negotiation with the United States through Pakistani intermediaries.

This proposal has given hope to oil markets for the possibility of positive movements in negotiations to end the war.

With the closure of the Strait of Hormuz continuing, prices remain susceptible to increases, especially with ongoing military tensions.

Markets Hope for Opportunities to Reduce Tensions Between Iran and the United States

Analysts in the oil markets have expressed optimism about improving chances for an agreement between Iran and the United States, which could help ease tensions and facilitate crude oil supplies.

On the other hand, Phil Flynn, an analyst at Price Futures Group, mentioned that Iran's proposals could enhance hopes for a political exit from the crisis.

Brent Crude Prices Reach Highest Level Since March 2022 as Futures Contracts Near Expiration

Before the expiration of the June Brent contract, prices reached a record level of $126.41 per barrel, the highest since March 2022.

This indicates that markets are affected by rapidly evolving political developments in the region, as the closure of the strait and the impact of the war continuously pressure prices.

Military Closure of the Strait of Hormuz Exacerbates Global Oil Price Crisis

Since tensions escalated in February, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and military impacts on shipping have become major factors influencing global oil prices.

This strait is a vital artery for transporting a significant portion of global oil, increasing pressure on energy markets and leading to price volatility.

Expectations of U.S. Escalation Against Iran Could Raise Oil Prices Again

At the same time, a U.S. official revealed to Reuters that President Donald Trump was scheduled to receive a briefing on plans for new military strikes against Iran aimed at pressuring it to negotiate.

Washington has not yet disclosed details of these plans, but markets are watching for any developments that could significantly affect price trajectories.

Conclusion: Ongoing Geopolitical Pressures Support High Oil Prices

Regardless of the slight decline in oil prices on Friday's session, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East remain a pivotal factor driving prices higher.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the disruption of Iranian oil exports, along with new diplomatic moves, contribute to strengthening expectations of rising oil prices in the near term.
