The World Food Program warned that "suspending American food aid to Syria could be a death sentence for millions already facing severe hunger in Syria." The deputy to the UN envoy to Syria stated that "nearly 1.5 million Syrians are at risk of losing essential food aid." She added that "suspending American food aid to Syria is a blow that undermines the stability of an already fragile region." It is worth noting that Syria is suffering from harsh American sanctions imposed on the Bashar al-Assad regime, which the Syrian people are struggling to bear, amid persistent calls for their removal.
