Loss of 7 sailors from Damietta after an Egyptian fishing boat sank near Turkey

The governorate of Damietta in northern Egypt experienced a state of shock and deep sadness following the announcement of the sinking of the Egyptian fishing boat "Abu Hamza" off the Turkish coast, resulting in the loss of 7 residents of the governorate who were on board.
The tragic events began after communication with the boat was lost for a full 12 days, since it set sail on February 2, 2026, on a routine fishing trip, with plans to return to Egypt on February 24.
However, the boat did not arrive on time, and communication was suddenly and completely lost, causing great concern among the sailors' families.
Local and family sources confirmed the loss of the seven sailors who were on the ill-fated boat, amid intensive efforts by the relevant authorities to determine the location of the incident and the wreckage, relying on the last coordinates sent by the boat's captain before communication was lost.
Currently, authorities are continuing their investigations to understand the exact reasons that led to the sinking of the boat, in an attempt to comprehend the circumstances and prevent the recurrence of such a maritime disaster.
