The Lebanese President Michel Aoun made a phone call to his Syrian counterpart Ahmed Al-Sharaa, congratulating him on assuming the presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic during the transitional period, according to a statement issued by the Syrian presidency.

During the call, the Lebanese President emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation and diplomatic relations between the two sisterly countries, to achieve security and stability for both Syria and Lebanon. He also stressed Lebanon's support for the unity, independence, and national sovereignty of Syrian territories.

On his part, the Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa emphasized the historical and geographical ties that bind the two countries, pointing out the importance of joint efforts for a more stable future.

It is worth mentioning that President Al-Sharaa had stated last month to the Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati that Syria stands at "one distance" from all Lebanese.
