The Kuwaiti Citizenship Department has launched an extensive audit campaign to uncover cases of dual citizenship and forgery, using the old "paper fingerprint" stored at the Criminal Evidence Department, alongside the electronic biometric database. The campaign has resulted in the withdrawal of Kuwaiti citizenship from 120 women in the first batch.
Scope of the Campaign and Number of Targets
The campaign includes auditing the status of about 9,000 individuals who have not previously undergone biometric fingerprinting, matching their old fingerprints with the new data. Sources indicated that most of the cases discovered involve women holding Gulf or other foreign nationalities, as losing Kuwaiti citizenship occurs automatically under the law, without exception or the possibility of waiving the other nationality.
Future Expectations
Media estimates suggest that the campaign will expand to include additional batches, applying audits to citizens, residents, and visitors, with the aim of updating national databases and protecting national identity from forgery.
