The Israeli army radio reported today, Saturday, that senior Israeli officials who participated in the talks held by the Prime Minister last night confirmed that Israel does not consider Hamas' statement as an approval of the American proposal to end the war in the Gaza Strip.
According to the radio, the Israeli officials clarified that Israel interpreted Hamas' position differently from U.S. President Donald Trump, who viewed the movement's response as acceptance of the peace plan and called on Israel to immediately cease bombing Gaza, considering that the movement is "ready for lasting peace."
The officials pointed out that Trump's statements imposed a new reality on Israel, as it "left it no choice but to treat Hamas' statement as a step allowing for dialogue," adding that the next few days will be crucial, either leading to an agreement that results in the release of hostages or a return to violent fighting.
Hamas announced on Friday evening that it had delivered its response to the Trump plan to end the war to the mediators, confirming its readiness to release all Israeli prisoners according to a specific exchange formula in the proposal, and reiterating its agreement to hand over the administration of the Gaza Strip to a Palestinian body of independents (technocrats) with national consensus and Arab and Islamic support.
