An Israeli security official said that "the possibility of Turkey establishing a military base in Syria" constitutes a "potential threat" to Israel. According to the Israeli newspaper "Jerusalem Post," quoting the official, who remained anonymous, "if a Turkish airbase is established in Syria, it would undermine Israeli operational freedom." The Israeli official stated that "Turkish presence in Syria poses a potential threat that Tel Aviv opposes." He added that "Israel, which occupies Syrian territories, is concerned about Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara taking new steps to end the occupation." He admitted that "Israel bombed the T-4 airbase, located in eastern Homs countryside, to send a message that it will not allow interference with airstrikes in Syria."
