Israel closes 6,000 hectares of agricultural land in Quneitra to build military bases and demolish dozens of houses

Deputy Governor of Quneitra, Mohammed Al-Saeed, explained that Israeli violations and the construction of military bases in southern Syria have led to the closure of about 6,000 hectares of agricultural land and pastures in front of citizens, resulting in a significant loss for many families that rely on livestock farming.

Al-Saeed provided an assessment of the situation in Quneitra following the collapse of the Assad regime on December 8, 2024, and addressed the impact of Israeli violations on the lives of citizens.

Al-Saeed mentioned that Israel has established more than 8 military bases recently north of Quneitra Governorate, reaching the Yarmouk Basin, inside the demilitarized zone stipulated in the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, considering it a clear violation of the agreement.

He said: "The violations have deprived residents of using about 6,000 hectares (1 hectare equals 10,000 square meters) of agricultural land and pastures. Many families that rely on livestock farming have lost their source of income".

He pointed out that Israel claims the presence of Hezbollah and Iran forces to justify its attacks on residential areas in Quneitra, adding: "In the village of Al-Hamidiyah, they demolished more than 15 houses".
