The Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani affirmed Iraq's commitment to preventing any security escalation, emphasizing that the country's territory will not be a launching pad for any regional or international conflict.
This came during his chairing of an extraordinary meeting of the National Security Council, dedicated to discussing the rapid security developments in the region amid escalating military tensions.
Al-Sudani, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, stressed the necessity for security agencies to confront any attempts that may lead to destabilizing security and stability or dragging Iraq into ongoing confrontations in the region.
The meeting also confirmed that the state is committed to protecting diplomatic missions and vital facilities within the country, emphasizing that no attacks on them will be permitted, in accordance with Iraq's legal and international obligations.
The meeting also addressed the potential economic repercussions of the expansion of military operations in the region, as ministers responsible for energy and trade issues reviewed the reality of fuel and electricity production, in addition to the necessary measures to maintain food security and ensure market stability.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the council affirmed that the decision of peace and war and military movements remains exclusively in the hands of the constitutional state institutions, in an effort to maintain internal stability and neutralize Iraq from the escalating regional conflicts.
