Munir El Haddadi Stranded in Iran After US and Israel Attack and Airspace Closure

In the midst of an unprecedented military escalation that shook the region early Saturday, Moroccan international player Munir El Haddadi found himself stranded in the Iranian capital Tehran after the airspace was closed and flights were suspended following joint strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, and an Iranian response with missiles towards Israel.
The 30-year-old player, who previously played for Barcelona, is currently active with the Iranian club Esteghlal.
He was on a plane preparing to leave the country at the moment the strikes occurred, before all air traffic was halted and several airports in the region were closed, disrupting the travel plans of hundreds of passengers, including athletes and foreign technical teams.
* An 11-Hour Land Journey
According to the Spanish newspaper "AS", El Haddadi left the capital by land accompanied by player Ivan Sanchez (currently with Sepahan and formerly with Real Valladolid), heading towards the Turkish border via the city of Bazargan in the north of the country, in a journey that takes about 11 hours, hoping to cross the border and reach Turkey after air travel became impossible.
* Stranded Technical Teams and Canceled Competitions
El Haddadi was not alone in this predicament; Spanish nationals Pepe Losada (fitness coach) and Emilio Alvarez (goalkeeper coach) at Persepolis faced the same fate after arriving from Isfahan to Tehran only to find the airport completely closed.
Additionally, Iranian league matches were canceled at the last minute amid rising security tensions, while several airlines rushed to suspend their flights to and from multiple destinations in the Middle East due to the closure of large airspaces in the region.
In contrast, Spanish goalkeeper Antonio Adan, El Haddadi's teammate at Esteghlal, managed to leave Iran on Friday, taking advantage of the rest days granted by the club to players just hours before the events unfolded.
* Diplomatic Movements
Reports indicate that the Spanish embassy is monitoring the situation of its nationals in Iran and is working on arrangements for their evacuation in the coming days, as military developments and their implications on air travel and sports activities continue.
Thus, a routine sports scene turned into a dramatic chapter of a troubled reality, where the former Barcelona star found himself racing against time and borders, searching for a safe exit from the eye of the storm.
