The Hamas movement criticized, on Thursday evening, the United States' use of the veto to thwart a draft resolution in the United Nations Security Council calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and facilitating the delivery of aid and the release of Israeli prisoners.
The movement stated in a statement that "the American veto represents a blatant complicity and a full partnership in the crime of genocide being committed by the occupation against our Palestinian people," considering it a "green light for the continuation of murder, starvation, and brutal attacks on the city of Gaza."
Hamas praised the position of the ten countries that presented the draft resolution, calling on the international community and UN bodies to intensify pressure on Benjamin Netanyahu's government to stop military operations and hold Israeli leaders accountable before the International Criminal Court.
The United States had obstructed, for the second time in recent weeks, a draft resolution formulated by the non-permanent member states of the Security Council, while 14 other members out of 15 supported the resolution.
The draft resolution called for an "immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza," the release of all prisoners, in addition to lifting the restrictions imposed on the entry of humanitarian aid and distributing it without obstacles to civilians.
