Drones Target Erbil and Baghdad: New Security Escalation in the Iraqi Arena

According to initial data, the targeting occurred in the Dekla area between Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, in a development that reflects the widening scope of attacks linked to the ongoing war between Iran and Israel and the United States.
Drone Shot Down Near Baghdad Airport
In Baghdad, security sources announced the downing of a drone near Baghdad International Airport, with no injuries or damages reported.
The airport houses a military base hosting a logistical support team from the U.S. embassy, and it was previously a base for the international coalition forces led by the United States after 2003, making it a sensitive target amid the current escalation.
This incident follows a day after another drone was shot down in the same area, in addition to authorities announcing the seizure of nine rockets and a launch platform that were prepared to target the airport.
Iraq Between Escalation Pressures and Attempts to Stay Neutral
Despite Baghdad's repeated declarations of not wanting to engage in the regional war, recent developments indicate the difficulty of neutralizing the Iraqi arena from the repercussions of the conflict.
Since the launch of the Israeli-American military campaign against Iran, Iraqi factions supported by Tehran have been subjected to strikes attributed to Washington and Tel Aviv, while those factions announced their adoption of drone attacks targeting U.S. bases inside Iraq.
With the recurrence of targeting incidents near sensitive facilities, it seems that Iraq is facing an escalating security challenge in an attempt to maintain its relative stability and prevent it from turning again into an open proxy battleground.
