More than 100 civilians were kidnapped in Ituri province in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo on Saturday in an attack by CODECO militias, according to Radio France Internationale.
The victims, who were traders, were returning from the Boli market in vehicles and motorcycles before falling into an ambush set by militia members in the Lida area, resulting in the looting of their goods.
The head of the civil society organization Bahima Nord, Charité Panza, called for joint cooperation between the Congolese armed forces and the Ugandan People's Defense Forces to confront this militia that spreads terror in the region.
Panza noted that the incident has resulted in the loss of more than 104 people so far, confirming that the attack also targeted the soldiers who were accompanying the convoy to protect civilians.
