In the early hours of this Tuesday morning, the Luxor governorate in southern Egypt witnessed a tragic accident when a passenger bus overturned on the Major General Samir Farag axis road, near the eastern desert road, while heading from Luxor to Cairo.
The accident resulted in the death of 3 people, while 34 others sustained various injuries, and they were quickly transported by 25 ambulances that arrived at the accident site immediately after it occurred.
Thirteen injured individuals were admitted to both Karnak International Hospital and Luxor International Medical Complex for necessary medical care.
According to initial investigations and eyewitness testimonies, the cause of the accident was attributed to excessive speed, which caused the driver to lose control of the steering wheel, leading to the sudden overturning of the bus.
Following the accident, Major General Mohamed El-Sawy, Assistant Minister of Interior and Director of Luxor Security, moved to the hospitals to check on the injured, and directed to intensify efforts to quickly remove the aftermath of the accident and open the road for traffic, where heavy cranes were deployed to lift the bus and restore normalcy.
An official report of the incident has been filed, and the public prosecution has been notified, which has begun investigations under the supervision of the Attorney General for Luxor Prosecutions.
This accident highlights the dangers of excessive speed on highways and the necessity of tightening traffic control to ensure the safety of travelers.
