Bloody Massacre in South Sudan: Over 120 Dead and Mysterious Attack Escalates Chaos

A media official in the Ruing area stated that the attack occurred on Sunday and targeted residential gatherings, leading to the deaths of 82 civilians, most of whom were women, children, and the elderly. He confirmed that the attack also claimed the lives of the county commissioner and the local executive director, reflecting the magnitude of the blow to the local administration.
In a concerning development, Médecins Sans Frontières announced the loss of contact with 26 of its staff following the escalation of violence in the country in recent weeks.
The organization clarified in a statement that 26 staff members out of 291 working in the Lankien and Pieri areas are still missing, noting that its teams lost communication with them amid the security breakdown in the region.
The two areas are located in Jonglei State, which has turned since last December into a battleground between government forces and opposition forces, in an escalation that reflects the fragility of the security situation in the country.
The organization also revealed that an airstrike carried out by government forces on February 3 targeted one of its facilities in the area, in an incident that raised widespread concern about the safety of humanitarian workers in conflict zones.
