After the widespread controversy.. Syrian Immigration and Passports clarify the validity period of passports and apologize for the previous confusion

Colonel Arabi stated in a comment to the Sana Agency: "I apologize to our Syrian people abroad for any confusion or misunderstanding caused by the previous clarification. It was never intended to offend them, as they are the children of this homeland, many of whom were forced to leave to avoid the crimes of the fallen regime."
He explained that a passport is granted for six years to ordinary citizens, while it is granted for two and a half years to citizens who have security procedures under review. He added: "Upon completion of these procedures, the individual has the right to obtain a passport for six years without any obstacles."
The Syrian official confirmed that the department is committed to serving Syrians inside and outside the country, and that decisions related to passports are based on clear legal foundations and regulatory procedures that consider the specifics of each case individually.
This clarification came after widespread public discussions in recent days regarding the validity period of passports and the mechanism for granting them, prompting the authorities to reaffirm citizens' rights and ensure the department's compliance with the applicable laws.
