After 13 Years of Absence.. Samer Al-Masri Returns to the Sham Environment with the Series 'Al-Nawilati'

Al-Masri explained that his absence from this type lasted about 13 years, but he always felt that the Sham environment has a unique artistic quality that cannot be compensated, especially when the work is filmed outside of Damascus.
'The Spirit of Sham' Returns to the Screen
Al-Masri pointed out that filming 'Al-Nawilati' in the heart of Damascus restored the work's original flavor, both in terms of visual details and the feeling of place, which reflected – according to his description – on the actors' performance and their harmony with the dramatic atmosphere.
He confirmed that the real environment gives the work greater credibility and creates a sensory link between the actor and the scene, which some works filmed outside Syria in recent years have lacked.
The Character 'Al-Ghawwas'.. A Struggle in a Harsh World
In the series, Al-Masri embodies the character 'Al-Ghawwas', a character that does not directly belong to the profession of weaving, but finds itself entangled in a world different from its original environment.
He indicated that 'Al-Ghawwas' enters a circle of intense conflicts from the very first moments and bears responsibilities that exceed his capacity in an environment he described as unjust and conflicting, which puts him in direct confrontations and multiple fighting scenes.
He noted that he added his own touches to the fighting style, in line with the nature of the character, along with creating unique expressive 'catchphrases' for it.
The Secret of the Phrase 'Namlat'
Al-Masri paused at the phrase 'Namlat' which is repeated by 'Al-Ghawwas', explaining that it is inspired by the prison atmosphere he experiences within the events of the work, and it has turned into a 'code' circulated among the characters before spreading in different contexts within the story.
The Legacy of 'Abu Shahab' Returns to the Forefront
Al-Masri's return to this dramatic genre has brought back memories of his great success in the character 'Akeed Abu Shahab' in the series Bab Al-Hara, which was a turning point in his career and solidified his presence in Sham environment drama.
With the increasing competition in the Ramadan season, the audience is waiting to see if 'Al-Nawilati' will grant Samer Al-Masri a new success that restores the glory of the golden era of this type of drama.
