The Yemeni Coast Guard announced on Tuesday that it thwarted an attempt to kidnap three members of the Somali security forces who were on board a boat off the coast of Hadramaut province in southeastern Yemen.
The forces stated in a statement published on the South Shield website that they were able to rescue the three Somali personnel after a precise monitoring and follow-up operation targeted a traditional fishing boat coming from the Puntland state of Somalia, which was involved in the kidnapping attempt within Yemeni territorial waters.
The statement added that the Coast Guard intercepted the boat while it was near the port of Qusayr in eastern Hadramaut, where those in charge intended to unload a cargo of fish, noting that the boat was seized and its crew of ten people was arrested.
The forces confirmed that the kidnapped individuals were rescued without any injuries and provided with medical care, while inspections of the boat revealed the presence of weapons and military uniforms.
The statement clarified that the boat and its crew were placed under detention in preparation for completing the necessary legal procedures.
