World Health Organization: Yemen Records Over 87,000 Cholera Cases and 237 Deaths This Year

The report indicated that between January 1 and October 26, there were 87,566 suspected cases of cholera and acute watery diarrhea, making Yemen the third highest mortality rate globally with 260 deaths per 100,000 cases, following South Sudan (636) and Afghanistan (446).
Yemen ranks second globally in cholera outbreaks in terms of the number of cases, after Afghanistan, which recorded 145,907 cases. Yemen also recorded the second highest incidence rate in the Eastern Mediterranean region and the second highest number of deaths after Sudan (1,704 cases). The total new cases in the region since the beginning of the year reached 329,208, with 2,022 deaths recorded.
In October alone, the number of suspected cholera cases in Yemen reached 6,377, the second highest global rate after Afghanistan (17,128 cases), down by 29% compared to September, which recorded 8,929 cases. Deaths in October decreased by 52% to 12 cases compared to 25 deaths in September.
The World Health Organization confirmed that the total cumulative cases across 32 countries worldwide since the beginning of the year until October 26 reached 565,404 cases of cholera and acute watery diarrhea, with 7,074 deaths recorded.
