Widespread International Condemnation of the Israeli Attack on Doha: A Flagrant Violation of Qatar's Sovereignty and Undermining of Peace Efforts

International and Arab reactions followed today, Tuesday, after the Israeli attack targeted a meeting of leaders from Hamas in the Katara neighborhood of the Qatari capital, Doha, while discussing a proposal presented by U.S. President Donald Trump for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of prisoners.

In the first UN comment, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the attack, describing it as a "flagrant violation of Qatar's sovereignty," praising the positive role Doha plays in mediation efforts, and affirming that "all parties must work towards achieving a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, not its destruction."

For his part, the diplomatic advisor to the Emirati president, Dr. Anwar Gargash, condemned the Israeli attack, calling it "treacherous," and confirmed via the "X" platform that "the security of the Gulf Arab states is indivisible," and that the UAE stands "wholeheartedly with the sister state of Qatar."

The Emirati Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed also expressed "full solidarity with dear Qatar."

In Tehran, the Iranian Foreign Ministry described the attack as a "blatant violation of all international rules and regulations," and spokesperson Ismail Baqaei stated that "this extremely dangerous criminal act constitutes a violation of Qatar's national sovereignty and territorial integrity."

The Islamic Jihad Movement also condemned the attack, considering it a "criminal act par excellence that violates all humanitarian standards and values and the lowest international laws and norms," while Pope Leo of the Vatican commented on the event, stating that "the situation is extremely dangerous," referring to the implications of the escalation on regional peace efforts.

Qatar confirms that the attack targeted residential premises housing several members of Hamas's political bureau, including Khalil al-Hayya and Zahir Jabareen, resulting in casualties and injuries, including members of the al-Hayya family, amid ongoing high-level Qatari investigations.
