Orban: My Upcoming Visit to Washington May Pave the Way for a Putin-Trump Summit in Budapest

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban expressed optimism about the possibility of a Russian-American summit bringing together Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, following his upcoming visit to Washington and his meeting with the American president.

Orban said in an interview with local radio "Kossuth" on Friday that "the upcoming visit to the White House may bring us a step closer to achieving the summit," explaining that his government has "long been working to create the right conditions for this historic meeting."

The Prime Minister added that the Hungarian delegation to Washington will be of high level, including ministers, senior officials, and heads of major companies, noting that the visit aims to conduct a comprehensive review of bilateral relations and resolve some outstanding economic issues.

Orban clarified that peace will be one of the main topics of discussion, but he confirmed that the Hungarian side is also seeking to sign a major economic agreement with the United States, saying:

> "We have been discussing economic issues for months, and I believe we will be able to put together a package of measures to enhance Hungarian-American cooperation."



Budapest is one of the few European capitals that maintains balanced relations with Moscow and Washington, and it has previously hosted important international talks on political, economic, and security issues.

The White House announced last Monday the postponement of the scheduled summit between Presidents Putin and Trump in Budapest, following a phone call between the two leaders, indicating that "the current circumstances do not allow for meaningful results," which led both sides to postpone the meeting.
