The Gulf Cooperation Council countries welcomed a decision issued by the legal committee of the International Maritime Organization, which condemned Iran's imposition of fees on ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, in addition to what it described as threats related to navigation in the region.
The welcome came through the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jasem Al-Budaiwi, who considered the decision an important step to enhance international navigation security.
Condemnation Including Threats, Attacks, and Mine Laying
According to the statement, the international decision was not limited to fees but also included condemnation of:
Threats against commercial vessels
Maritime attacks in the region
Laying mines near vital passages
And assaults on territories in the Gulf and Jordan according to the statement

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council emphasized the importance of implementing the decision internationally and ensuring the unobstructed passage of ships through the strait, as it is one of the most important maritime passages for energy transport and global trade.

The statement also praised the role of the United Arab Emirates in preparing and supporting the decision within the legal committee, describing it as “important” in enhancing maritime security in the region.
