Turkey is considering a trilateral partnership with the USA and South Korea to build a new nuclear power plant

Ankara is moving towards strengthening its nuclear energy strategy, as it explores the possibility of establishing a trilateral cooperation with the United States and South Korea to create a new nuclear power plant, as part of its plans to construct two additional plants in Sinop and Western Thrace.
This comes within the framework of broader consultations Turkey is conducting with Russia, China, Canada, and South Korea, alongside high-level talks recently held by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with leaders from Canada and France regarding small and large nuclear plants.
Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar clarified that the potential trilateral project with Washington and Seoul may include conventional and small-sized plants, while Turkey races against time to complete the "Akkuyu" nuclear power plant it is building with Russia, expected to be operational by 2026.
