Trump Launches "Trump Rx" to Buy Medications at Lower Prices

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump announced yesterday, Thursday, the launch of a new online platform called "Trump Rx", aimed at helping patients purchase prescribed medications at reduced prices by directing them straight to the manufacturers' websites that offer direct-to-consumer purchasing.

During the unveiling of the site, Trump stated: "You will save a fortune, and this is also very beneficial for healthcare in general."

It is worth noting that the site does not sell medications directly but acts as a guiding platform allowing consumers to view prices and obtain pharmacy coupons to facilitate purchasing at lower prices.

The site initially launches with over 40 medications, including popular weight loss drugs like "Ozempic" and "Wegovy".

This move is part of larger efforts by the Trump administration to address rising healthcare costs, which are a growing concern for Americans, especially with housing, grocery, and other utility costs, which has been a political vulnerability for the administration ahead of the midterm elections in November.

Trump emphasized that the lower prices came as a result of his pressure on pharmaceutical companies to require them to charge the same prices in the United States as in other countries, noting that prescription drug costs may rise in foreign countries as a result.

He added at an event held at the White House that lasted about 20 minutes: "We are tired of supporting the world."

The launch of the site comes after multiple delays, the reasons for which were not disclosed, although officials had previously confirmed that the site would share prices with consumers before the end of last year, and it was expected to launch in late January.

This platform is part of a series of initiatives announced by the Trump administration in recent months, including agreements with 9 major pharmaceutical companies to lower prices and build new factories in the United States, aimed at tackling rising drug costs and enhancing Americans' affordability.
